MISA Technical Bursary Programme for 2025

The Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA) is calling on South Africa’s brightest young minds to apply for its Technical Bursary Programme for 2025. If you’re passionate about engineering, town planning, or other infrastructure-related careers in the public sector, this opportunity could be your gateway to a future that makes a real difference in your community.

WHAT IS MISA?

The Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA) is a government agency under the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA). It plays a critical role in supporting municipalities to deliver effective, sustainable infrastructure and services—especially in under-resourced areas.

The MISA bursary programme is one of the agency’s initiatives aimed at growing the pool of technical skills within local government. The goal is to build qualified engineers, town planners, and technologists who can lead South Africa’s infrastructure development.

Fields of Study Covered by the MISA Bursary 2025

The bursary is geared toward students who wish to pursue or are currently pursuing undergraduate qualifications in the following fields:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Urban and Regional Planning
  • Town and Regional Planning
  • Construction Management
  • Environmental Management
  • Quantity Surveying
  • Geographical Information Systems (GIS)

These fields align with South Africa’s pressing need for infrastructure professionals in its 257 municipalities.

  • My name is Gcinani Luvuno and it recently came to my attention that your organization is offering a limited number of bursaries to a local university student. I am therefore this letter to express my appreciation of your generosity and submit my credentials in hope of securing one those bursaries.
