Midvaal Municipality Financial Management Internship Programme for 2025

Midvaal Local Municipality, located in the Sedibeng District of Gauteng, continues to lead by example when it comes to creating opportunities for youth development and economic empowerment. One of its standout initiatives is the Financial Management Internship Programme (FMIP)—a dynamic, work-based training programme designed to produce the next generation of qualified municipal finance professionals.

WHAT IS THE FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME?

The FMIP is a structured two-year internship programme that forms part of the National Treasury’s initiative to build capacity within local government. It is targeted at unemployed graduates who hold a National Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Financial Management, Cost and Management Accounting, or a related field. The goal is to provide on-the-job training aligned with the competencies of the Municipal Minimum Competency Regulations.

Interns are placed within Midvaal’s finance department, where they receive exposure to critical functions such as budgeting, revenue collection, expenditure control, financial reporting, internal audit, and supply chain management. The practical experience gained during this programme significantly improves a graduate’s employment prospects in both the public and private sectors.
