POSTS: BREAKDOWN CREW X7

  • Department: IBO
  • Designation: Breakdown Crew X7
  • Remuneration: Grade B3
  • Location: Metrobus – Various Depots

PURPOSE:

Transport broken down buses to the depot and mechanical service areas and perform minor repairs.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Matric / Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent at NQF level 4.
  • Valid Driver’s License Code C; EC1/ 04; EC.
  • Minimum of 3 years functional experience of which 6 months must be on utilization of breakdown tools and equipment.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS: 

  • Breakdown/ Towing services.
  • Take calls for break down assistance requirements and ascertain the problem and location of the caller.
  • Investigate the car damage and diagnose problem.
  • Perform minor repair services e.g. reconnect parts, test and attempt to jump-start a dead battery, inflate and change tyre, replace spark plug and connect loose wires.
  • Strap and connect bus to the tow truck and transport to the required destination.
  • Follow up with team regularly to provide status updates, as well as estimated time of arrivals to the destination.
  • Dismantle damaged buses to salvage parts, using such hand tools.
  • Remove, bend, or cut parts of damaged buses to prepare for towing.
  • Maintain tow trucks and other equipment. Report on break down activities and update files.

BREAKDOWN / TOWING SERVICES:

  • Ability to safely tow/transport Bus with no damage caused.
  • Observation and compliance to road safety regulations during towing/transportation.
  • Ability to operate or use towing related tools and equipment.
  • Ability to perform minor/basic mechanical repairs.
  • Time management.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
