Ingwe TVET College & EWSETA: Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Programme 2026

South African youth and experienced artisans who have been working without formal trade certification now have an important opportunity to convert their experience into recognised artisan credentials through the Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning (ARPL) Programme supported by EWSETA and implemented through Ingwe TVET College.

This programme is especially valuable for individuals who already have at least three years of industry experience in technical trades but never received formal artisan certification. Through Recognition of Prior Learning, your experience can be assessed and aligned with national occupational standards — opening doors to better employment, trade testing, and career advancement.

A total of 63 unemployed candidates and 40 employed beneficiaries will be contracted under this intake.

Benefits of Recognition of Prior Learning Certification

Completing an RPL pathway improves career opportunities significantly.

Possible advantages include:

  • eligibility for trade testing
  • improved employment prospects
  • higher earning potential
  • formal recognition of experience
  • access to advanced apprenticeships
  • eligibility for artisan registration pathways

Employers prefer candidates with recognised competencies aligned to national standards.

This programme helps you reach that level.

Difference Between Apprenticeship Training and RPL

Many applicants confuse these two.

Traditional Apprenticeship

  • starts from beginner level
  • includes structured training
  • includes long-term workplace placement

Recognition of Prior Learning

  • evaluates existing experience
  • shortens training pathway
  • prepares candidate for certification readiness

This makes RPL one of the fastest routes toward becoming a recognised artisan.
