Harry Gwala District Municipality is once again opening doors of opportunity for young South African graduates through its 18-month In-Service Training Programme. This initiative is designed to provide hands-on, practical experience to individuals who have completed relevant theoretical studies and now require workplace exposure to complete their qualifications or improve employability. With a modest stipend of R2,000 per month, the programme supports aspiring professionals across critical components of municipal governance and operations.

Programme Overview

The in-service training opportunity targets qualified youth residing within the jurisdiction of the municipality and focuses on the following key operational units:

  1. Fleet Management Unit

This unit ensures the availability, maintenance, and efficiency of the municipal vehicle fleet, which is essential for service delivery.

  • Required Qualification:
    National Diploma or Degree in Fleet Management, Logistics, or Transport Management.
  1. Project Management Unit

Here, trainees are exposed to the planning, implementation, and monitoring of municipal infrastructure and development projects.

  • Required Qualification:
    National Diploma or Degree in Project Management, Construction Management, or Built Environment.
  1. Supply Chain Management (SCM) Unit

This component trains interns in procurement processes, contract management, and compliance with public sector supply chain frameworks.

  • Required Qualification:
    National Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or Purchasing Management.

 

 

  1. Revenue Management Unit

Interns in this unit assist in billing, revenue collection, and financial reporting functions vital to the sustainability of the municipality.

  • Required Qualification:
    National Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Revenue Management.
  1. Water and Wastewater Unit

This unit involves exposure to the operations and maintenance of water purification and wastewater treatment systems.

  • Required Qualification:
    National Diploma or Degree in Water and Sanitation, Environmental Health, or Civil Engineering (Water Services).
  1. Special Programmes Unit

Focused on social development, youth, gender, disability, and HIV/AIDS programmes, this unit promotes inclusive governance and community empowerment.

  • Required Qualification:
    National Diploma or Degree in Public Administration, Social Work, Community Development, or Development Studies.
