About the Learnership Programme

South Africa continues to face high levels of youth unemployment, especially among young people who have limited work experience and formal qualifications. Programmes such as this one are designed to bridge that gap by providing structured training and workplace readiness skills.

The General Technical Practice Learnership focuses on foundational technical and workplace competencies. It equips learners with practical knowledge that can be used across various industries, particularly within the energy and technical sectors.

Unlike traditional classroom learning, a learnership combines theory and practical training. This allows participants to develop real-world skills while working toward a recognised qualification.

For many young job seekers, an NQF Level 1 qualification can become the first stepping stone toward future learnerships, apprenticeships, skills programmes, and entry-level employment opportunities.

What Qualification Will Learners Receive?

Successful participants will work toward the:

General Education and Training Certificate: General Technical Practice

  • SAQA ID: 49753
  • NQF Level: 1

This qualification introduces learners to fundamental workplace principles, technical environments, safety practices, and problem-solving techniques.

It is particularly suitable for individuals who wish to pursue careers in technical, engineering support, maintenance, utilities, construction, manufacturing, or related industries.

Programme Outcomes

According to the advertisement, successful learners will be able to:

  • Understand and adhere to safe working practices.
  • Select and use appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Follow instructions and use diagrammatic guides under supervision.
  • Work to acceptable standards and evaluate the quality of their own work.
  • Apply efficient time management, study skills, and self-management skills.
  • Describe and explain basic business principles and workplace practices.
  • Apply basic problem-solving techniques within a defined work context.
  • Understand workplace procedures, legislation, and policies.
  • Explain technologies used in the energy environment.
  • Understand alternative energy sources and energy efficiency concepts.
  • Use appropriate technical terminology within workplace settings.

These skills are valuable because employers increasingly look for candidates who understand workplace discipline, safety procedures, teamwork, and basic technical concepts.
