The Cenfri Bursary Programme is designed to support high-achieving, development-driven students by providing more than just financial aid. Successful applicants will receive:

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for the Cenfri Bursary Programme for 2026, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be on track to enter a one-year or final year of a Master’s degree in economics or related fields.
  • Hold an overall GPA of 65% or higher in the current or most recent year of study.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in research and a passion for development.
  • Possess good writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Be proficient in MS Office applications, with strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Advanced English communication (written and spoken) is essential.
  • Knowledge of Stata and survey data analysis will be advantageous.

Employment Equity and Location Preference

The bursary is strictly open to Employment Equity candidates who can demonstrate financial need and are South African citizens. While students from across the country are welcome to apply, preference will be given to those based in Cape Town to maximise workplace exposure and mentorship opportunities.

Shortlisted candidates will undergo a panel interview, technical assessments, and psychometric tests to evaluate academic potential, research capability, and workplace readiness.
