Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) Learnership Programme for 2025

The Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) Learnership Programme offers a paid, structured learning opportunity for young South Africans to gain essential workplace experience at the country’s major airports. It combines classroom learning with real-world training, culminating in a nationally recognised qualification under SETA and Umalusi standards.

Who Qualifies?

  • Age & Citizenship: Applicants must be South African citizens aged between 18 and 34
  • Academic Requirements: A Grade 12 (Matric) certificate is essential
  • Employment Status: Priority is given to unemployed youth looking to build their careers
  • Fitness & Reputation: Physical fitness is required—especially for Fire & Rescue roles—and applicants must have a clean criminal record

Where It Takes Place:

Learnerships are available at all nine ACSA airports—including OR Tambo (Johannesburg), Cape Town, King Shaka (Durban), and Bram Fischer—plus the corporate head office OR Tambo remains a major hub for intake, with Cape Town and King Shaka also featured prominently.

Duration & Qualification Outcomes

Spanning 12 to 18 months, learners complete a nationally recognised qualification:

  • National Certificate: Operations Management – NQF 3
  • Further Education & Training Certificate: Fire & Rescue Operations – NQF 4/5
  • National Certificate: General Security Practices – NQF 3.

During this time, 70% of the programme is on-the-job training, with 30% classroom theoretical learning—offered at ACSA facilities and accredited training providers.

Stipend & Support:

Learners are paid a monthly stipend, helping them focus on skill development without financial pressure. Each learner is guided by mentors and professional trainers, ensuring a supportive and immersive learning experience.

The Skills You’ll Build:

ACSA seeks candidates who demonstrate strong personal attributes—adaptability, assertiveness, ethical integrity, interpersonal sensitivity, resilience, and problem-solving. Core competencies include communication, collaboration, customer focus, teamwork, creativity, and initiative

Technical skills vary per discipline:

  • Fire & Rescue: emergency response, evacuation, fire suppression
  • Security: screening protocols, surveillance, safety regulations
  • Customer Care / Admin / Operations: passenger assistance, operations flow, administrative efficiency

Why It’s a Game-Changer:

  1. Bridging the Skills Gap
South Africa faces a high youth unemployment rate—this programme offers a practical, workplace-ready solution that enhances employability
  2. Real On‑the‑Job Learning
With 70% of time spent in actual workplace tasks, learners absorb functional skills that go far beyond theory
  3. National Credibility
The programme delivers an accredited qualification recognised across industries.
  4. Pathways to Employment
Many former learners have transitioned into permanent ACSA roles or leveraged their experience to find opportunities elsewhere.

How to Apply:

Applicants must submit:

  • Certified Matric certificate
  • Valid South African ID
  • Clean criminal record
  • Proof of physical fitness (especially for Fire & Rescue roles)
