About The AFGRI Farmer Development Learnership

AFGRI Farmer Development (AFD) is looking for qualified people to apply for its Learnership Programme, which is a structured 12-month training program at the Vastfontein Farm in Pretoria North, Gauteng.

This program includes both on-the-job training, where students work on real farms, and off-the-job instruction that focuses on Farming with Crops and Animals. Students learn the important skills and knowledge they need to do well in the agricultural sector through both hands-on and theoretical activities.

The program is open to everyone, but AFGRI strongly encourages applications from people who have historically been at a disadvantage, such as women and people with disabilities.

 

 

What the Program Offers

Successful Learners will:

  • Sign a 12-month fixed-term learnership contract with AFD
  • Get structured training in farming that is relevant to both crops and animals
  • Get hands-on experience on the farm by rotating through different tasks
  • Work with a cross-functional farming team on real projects
  • Learn in the classroom and in the field
  • Build skills that can lead to job opportunities or starting your own farm business

The goal of the program is to train agricultural workers who are skilled, confident, and ready to work.

Minimum Requirements

To be eligible for the AFGRI Farmer Development Learnership Programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be a citizen of South Africa
  • You need to have a Grade 12 (Matric) or an equivalent degree.
  • At the time of application, you must be unemployed
  • Women and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply

How long the programme lasts: 12 months (fixed-term contract)

All successful candidates will sign a twelve-month contract with AFGRI Farmer Development. During this time, they will finish the full learnership.
