Health Systems Trust (HST) Youth Employment Service (YES) Programme 2025/2026

 

 

The Health Systems Trust (HST), in collaboration with the Youth Employment Service (YES) initiative, is offering young South Africans an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience within the health sector. This programme is designed to empower unemployed youth by equipping them with essential skills while contributing to healthcare services in communities.

HST has made available 25 positions across uMgungundlovu District facilities and the Durban corporate office. Successful applicants will receive structured experiential learning and day-to-day administrative exposure in different healthcare and support environments. This programme is a chance to develop professional skills while contributing positively to South Africa’s health systems.

Who Can Apply?

If you are a young South African looking to grow your career, this is your chance. HST is seeking applicants who meet the following requirements:

  • Must be between 18 and 35 years old.
  • Must be currently unemployed.
  • Must not be studying full-time.
  • Must not be receiving any government grant (NSFAS, disability grant, etc.), except the social relief grant.
  • Must have a matric certificate.

This opportunity is open to candidates who are committed to gaining hands-on work experience and who have a keen interest in supporting South Africa’s healthcare system.

 

 

Available Departments and Locations

A total of 25 positions are available under the YES Programme, spread across the following areas:

  • Health Systems Strengthening (HSS) – uMgungundlovu District (19 positions):
    Placement opportunities are available at facilities such as Maguzu, Howick, Mpophomeni, Caluza, Mpumuza, Pata, Eastboom, Masons, Central City, Imbalenhle, Impilwenhle, Snathing, Gcumisa, Appelsbosch, Richmond, Ndaleni, Gomane, Bruntville, and Mooi River Clinic.
  • Corporate Services – Durban Office (6 positions):
    Opportunities are available in Human Resources, Finance, and Administration departments, located at 1 Maryvale Road, Westville, Durban.

Remuneration

Successful candidates will receive a remuneration package aligned with the Youth Employment Service Programme and HST’s Job Grading System. This ensures fair compensation while providing valuable workplace exposure.

Interested applicants must submit the following documents:

  1. Copy of your updated CV.
  2. Copy of your Identity Document (ID).
  3. Certified copy of your Matric certificate.
  4. Proof of residence (signed by the Ward Councillor).
  5. Affidavit confirming unemployment and that you are not receiving any government grant.

Applications can be submitted as follows:

  • Corporate Services (Durban Office): Submit your application to the HR Department, 1 Maryvale Road, Westville, Durban.
  • uMgungundlovu District Facilities: Submit your application into the boxes marked “CVs” at the local clinics and facilities where adverts are displayed.

Important Information

  • All applications must be received before the closing date. Late applications will not be considered.
  • Personal information will be processed lawfully in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
  • Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. If you do not hear from HST within 15 days after the closing date, please consider your application unsuccessful.
  • Shortlisted candidates will undergo reference and credential checks.
