The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has updated the National Recruitment Data base for all Qualified Unemployed Educators from 2020 to 2021. As EDUPSTAIRS, unemployed and qualified educators are advised to download the excel spreadsheet database and check if their names appear on the list.

Unemployed teachers, or those who had left the profession, are being encouraged to submit their details, qualifications and areas of expertise. Schools and school governing bodies looking for teachers can access this information.

The Centre for Development and Enterprise revealed that there would be a severe shortage of foundation phase teachers by 2020 if the number of recruits continued to drop. About 30,000 new teachers are needed over 12 years to meet demand.
