Rural Metro Emergency Management Services (Pty) Ltd has opened applications for its Learner Fire Fighter Programme in the Hessequa Region, Western Cape. This exciting opportunity is designed to provide training, development, and exposure to young, aspiring firefighters with limited experience in fire fighting, rescue, and related emergency operations.
This programme not only equips participants with technical skills but also instills discipline, teamwork, and community service values, making it an excellent stepping stone into a firefighting career. There are 8 learner fire fighter positions available, and interested candidates are encouraged to apply before the closing date.
Minimum Entry Requirements
To qualify for the Rural Metro Learner Fire Fighter Programme, applicants must:
- Possess a National Senior Certificate (Grade 12).
- Hold Fire Fighter 1 and Hazmat Awareness certifications.
- Be medically and physically fit (fitness and medical assessments will be conducted).
- Have no criminal record.
- Possess a valid Code B driver’s licence (Code C/EC with PrDP will be an advantage).
- Ensure course administrative compliance.
Key Responsibilities
As a learner fire fighter, successful candidates will be expected to carry out various duties that support both emergency operations and community engagement. These include:
- Responding to fire, rescue, and hazardous material incidents.
- Assisting in extinguishing fires and rescuing trapped individuals.
- Providing basic emergency medical care to injured persons.
- Participating in training drills, physical fitness sessions, and emergency simulations.
- Maintaining vehicles, equipment, and station facilities.
- Supporting fire safety education and community awareness initiatives.
- Completing administrative tasks, including incident documentation.
- Upholding strict Health, Safety, and Quality standards within the organisation.
