Millwright Apprenticeship Programme Overview
The main objective of this apprenticeship is to provide structured workplace learning, hands-on training, and theoretical knowledge, which will equip you with the skills necessary to become a qualified Millwright. The role involves diagnosing and interpreting mechanical problems, carrying out plant repairs, and performing routine maintenance on mechanical systems, installations, and machinery. Under the supervision of experienced Millwrights, you will gain valuable exposure to mechanical tools and systems that are integral to the smooth operation of the plant.
As part of this apprenticeship, you will be guided and mentored to develop the technical competence and practical skills needed to ensure that machinery is maintained and repaired safely and effectively. You will also contribute to the ongoing success of operations by being involved in preventative and predictive maintenance and participating in continuous improvement initiatives.
Minimum Requirements
To be eligible for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science
- Further Education: N3-N6 with relevant trade subjects
- Age: Between 18-35 years
- EE Preference: Females are encouraged to apply

Duties & Responsibilities
As a Millwright Apprentice at RCL Foods, your role will include a variety of exciting and hands-on tasks. Some of the key duties and responsibilities include:
- Maintenance and Repairs: Perform mechanical maintenance and repairs, ensuring all equipment operates at optimum performance levels.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the reduction of breakdowns and assist with plant improvements by applying the Kaizen problem-solving methodology (e.g., Fishbone diagrams, 5 Whys).
- Engineering Development: Assist in coaching and developing engineering skills for other maintenance and operational staff.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure all company safety regulations and standards, such as the Unilever safety standards and 5S principles, are adhered to during all maintenance activities.
- Problem-Solving and Diagnostics: Diagnose mechanical faults, conduct root cause analyses, and implement solutions to optimize production output.
