The Nketoana Local Municipality Financial Management Internship Programme (FMIP) offers an outstanding opportunity for young South African graduates to kickstart their careers in the public finance sector. Located in the heart of the Free State Province, the Nketoana Local Municipality is committed to nurturing future financial leaders through practical, structured, and empowering internship opportunities.

WHAT IS THE FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME (FMIP)?

The FMIP is a two-year internship initiative designed to build capacity within local municipalities and prepare finance graduates for careers in municipal financial management. This programme is a key part of the National Treasury’s strategy to improve financial governance at the local government level.

Nketoana Local Municipality implements this internship under the guidelines of the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) and in partnership with National Treasury and other capacity-building institutions. The internship not only offers hands-on experience but also aligns with the requirements for CIMA, SAIPA, and ACCA practical training where applicable.

  • Monthly Stipend: Successful candidates receive a monthly stipend of R100,000 per annum

WHO CAN APPLY?

To qualify for the Nketoana FMIP, applicants must:

  • Be South African citizens aged between 21 and 35.
  • Hold a National Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Financial Management, Auditing, or related fields.
  • Have no previous formal work experience in the public sector.
  • Be willing to sign an internship contract for a 24-month period.
  • Good personal Skills, Customer — Service orientated.

Note: Preference is given to unemployed youth and previously disadvantaged individuals, in line with the municipality’s employment equity goals.
