Hiring Pharmacist Assistants is a key part of strengthening medicine supply management and ensuring that patients receive the correct medication on time.

Job Purpose

The Pharmacist Assistant will work under the supervision of the Pharmacy Manager, supporting the provision of efficient, safe and compliant pharmaceutical services. This includes medication pre-packing, dispensing support, stock control and manufacturing assistance.

These roles are ideal for candidates who are passionate about patient care, accuracy, and maintaining high pharmaceutical standards.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this position, applicants must have:

Mandatory Requirements

  • A Grade 12 certificate
  • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a Pharmacist Assistant (Basic)
  • Current SAPC registration for 2025

Recommendations (Advantageous)

  • A valid, unendorsed Code B/08 driver’s licence
  • Proven computer literacy, especially in MS Office

  • Strong numerical/mathematical ability
  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to follow strict pharmaceutical procedures
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to work under supervision and within a team

 

 

Key Performance Areas

Successful candidates will be responsible for:

Medication Handling

  • Pre-packing medication for patient use
  • Ensuring correct medication labelling
  • Cleaning tablet counters and spatulas

Stock Management

  • Ordering medication, raw materials, and labels from the bulk store
  • Preparing documentation for all pre-packing and stock movements

Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Support

  • Assisting with the compounding or manufacturing of medication under pharmacist supervision
  • Preparing the manufacturing area
  • Closing manufacturing and pre-packing processes

General Support Duties

  • Following strict SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures)
  • Supporting pharmacy staff with admin and operational tasks
