Ivanplats (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, is offering an exciting opportunity for unemployed South Africans to kick-start their mining careers through the Miner Assistant Training Programme. With 41 trainee positions available, this entry-level initiative is designed to provide practical mining experience at the company’s world-class Platreef Project in Mokopane, Limpopo Province.
The Platreef Project is recognised as the “mine of the future,” boasting large-scale mechanised underground mining operations and cutting-edge technology. This opportunity gives aspiring mining professionals the chance to be part of a pioneering project in the platinum-group metals sector while acquiring valuable skills that can shape long-term careers.
Programme Purpose
The Trainee Development Programmes aim to equip participants with the technical knowledge, practical exposure, and on-the-job training required to fill future operational roles within the mine. Successful candidates will undergo structured training in a real mining environment, learning directly from experienced professionals and applying theoretical concepts to practice.
The training duration is a maximum of 90 days. During this period, trainees will be expected to demonstrate competence, discipline, and readiness to contribute to the mine’s operations.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for the programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification.
Advantageous qualifications/experience include:
- Up to 2 years of relevant work experience.
- Prior exposure to mining environments.
- Additional technical or vocational training above Grade 12.
Important Information for Applicants
- The training programme runs for a maximum of 90 days with no extensions permitted.
- A stipend will be provided to trainees during the programme.
- Completion of the programme does not guarantee permanent employment. Future placement will depend on:
- Individual performance.
- Demonstrated competency.
- Availability of vacancies at the mine.
- Shortlisted applicants will be required to undergo a LPCat Assessment.
- Internal employees are encouraged to apply if they wish to pursue a new career path within the company.
- Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South Africans (HDSA) from surrounding communities and women.
