The Harry Gwala District Municipality is offering a dynamic 12-month Internship Programme aimed at empowering unemployed graduates by providing them with real-world work experience in key administrative and development units. With a monthly stipend of R3,000, this programme is an excellent opportunity for young professionals to gain critical skills, enhance their career prospects, and contribute meaningfully to public service delivery.

This Internship Programme is strategically designed to develop a pipeline of skilled professionals by immersing interns in various municipal functions. Below is a breakdown of the available components and their respective qualification requirements:

Internship Components and Qualification Requirements:

  1. Administration Unit
    Qualification: Diploma or Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or Office Management.
    Role: Interns will support internal clerical tasks, document management, record-keeping, and departmental coordination.
  2. Information Technology (IT) Unit
    Qualification: Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or IT Support.
    Role: Interns will assist in maintaining IT infrastructure, troubleshooting systems, and supporting users with software and hardware issues.
  3. Project Management Unit
    Qualification: National Diploma or Degree in Project Management, Public Management, or Built Environment.
    Role: Interns will gain experience in planning, tracking project progress, community liaison, and report writing.
  4. Asset Management Unit
    Qualification: National Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Accounting, or Finance.
    Role: Interns will support inventory control, asset verification, and data capturing for the municipality’s fixed assets.
  5. Development and Planning Unit
    Qualification: National Diploma or Degree in Town and Regional Planning, Environmental Management, or Development Studies.
    Role: Interns will assist in spatial planning, land use management, and implementation of development strategies.
  6. Municipal Health Services Unit
    Qualification: National Diploma or Degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, or Health Promotion.
    Role: Interns will assist environmental health practitioners in inspections, awareness campaigns, and report compilation.
  7. Office of the Chief Operations Officer (COO)
    Qualification: Degree or Diploma in Public Management, Political Science, or Governance.
    Role: Interns will work closely with senior officials, assist in strategic coordination, stakeholder communication, and administrative duties.
  8. Performance Management Unit
    Qualification: Degree or Diploma in Public Administration, Monitoring and Evaluation, or Human Resources Management.
    Role: Interns will assist in tracking performance indicators, compiling reports, and supporting implementation of performance systems.
