This initiative aims to provide vital educational support to deserving students pursuing studies in key mining and engineering-related disciplines, as part of the company’s commitment to community development and skills empowerment.
Available Fields of Study
Gold One is offering 31 bursaries in total — 15 internal and 16 external opportunities — in the following study areas:
- Mining Engineering
- Geological & Earth Sciences
- Mechanical Engineering
- Metallurgical Science
- Financial Studies
- Other (only for internal applicants)
Requirements for External Candidates
External applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the Gold One Bursary Programme:
- Must be registered at a South African recognized institution of higher learning.
- Provide proof of registration and formal quotations for study requirements.
- All certificates must be SAPS certified.
- Submit proof of household income (deciding factor in selection).
- Submit proof of residence, as preference will be given to students within Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s designated wards.
- Must be a South African citizen.
- All supporting documents must be uploaded in PDF format (no PNG or JPEG accepted).
Requirements for Internal Candidates
Internal applicants (Gold One employees or their direct dependents) must meet the following conditions:
- Complete the Internal Application Form available from T & A.
- Must be registered with a recognized South African institution of higher learning.
- Provide proof of registration and formal study quotations.
- Employee must have at least one year of permanent employment with Gold One.
- All documents must be SAPS certified and uploaded as PDF files only.
Additional Information
- Successful candidates will be required to sign a bursary contract with Gold One.
- Applications will not be accepted in person by HR Officers or Gold One employees.
- Applications missing supporting documentation (certified ID, proof of address, and quotations) will not be considered.
- Preference will be given to mine-hosting communities — specifically applicants from Springs, Benoni, Brakpan, and Nigel, including all related townships.
What the Bursary Covers
The Gold One Bursary Scheme provides financial support for the following expenses:
- Tuition Fees
- Exam Fees
- Book Fees/Costs
- Accommodation (for full-time students at university-administered residences only, paid directly to the university)
What the Bursary Does Not Cover
The following costs are not covered under the bursary scheme:
- Monthly stipends
- Transport costs
- Laptops and data
- Meals
- Short courses
