The challenge of youth unemployment in South Africa continues to be one of the country’s biggest concerns. To address this, the GIBB Engineering Group has partnered with the national Youth Employment Service (YES) Programme, a ground-breaking business-led initiative in collaboration with government. The programme is designed to empower unemployed young people by providing them with real workplace experience, new skills, and the opportunity to earn an income while preparing for long-term, sustainable careers.
About the YES Programme
The Youth Employment Service (YES) Programme is a national initiative that unites both the private and public sectors in reducing youth unemployment. By opening up entry-level work opportunities, YES aims to give unemployed youth the tools and experience they need to become more employable. This is more than just training—it is meaningful work exposure that can unlock pathways to lasting careers.
For many young graduates, the gap between academic learning and real workplace demands is difficult to bridge. The YES Programme fills this gap by offering structured learnerships across multiple disciplines within GIBB, one of Africa’s leading engineering and infrastructure development companies.
