The Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) invites eligible pharmacy graduates to apply for the Pharmacy Internship Programme for 2026. This is a valuable opportunity for aspiring pharmacists to complete their 12-month internship in one of Gauteng’s public health facilities. Please note that all internship positions are subject to final approval.

About the Programme

The Pharmacy Internship Programme is a structured, full-time 12-month placement conducted in line with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) rules and requirements. Interns will gain exposure across multiple pharmacy services within central, tertiary, regional, district, and specialised hospitals across Gauteng, ensuring a holistic learning experience.

Interns will rotate across different functional areas including:

  • In-patients Pharmacy – Dispensing medication in wards, ensuring correct stock control.
  • Out-patients Pharmacy – Issuing prescriptions, patient counselling, and health education.
  • Bulk Compounding and Pre-packing – Preparing mixtures, disinfectants, and patient-ready medicine packs.
  • Patient Care Areas – Participating in ward rounds and collaborating with healthcare teams.

This programme equips graduates with practical experience that is vital for professional growth and registration as a pharmacist.
