Are you passionate about making a difference in healthcare? The Gauteng College of Nursing (GCON) is inviting applications for the Student Nurse Intake 2026, offering an exciting opportunity to study towards a Diploma in Nursing at one of its four campuses:

  • Ann Latsky Campus
  • Chris Hani Baragwanath Campus
  • SG Lourens Campus
  • Bonalesedi Campus

Who Can Apply?

To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen residing in Gauteng Province.
  • Hold one of the following school leaving certificates:
    • Senior Certificate
    • National Senior Certificate
    • Currently in Grade 12
    • National Vocational Certificate (Primary Health)

All applications must be submitted online via the GPG Professional Job Centre before or on 10 October 2025. No late, hand-delivered, or emailed applications will be accepted.

Applicants are required to register a profile on the system before applying, upload documents, and submit supporting documents at the selection centre if shortlisted. The application link is: https://nursingintake.gauteng.gov.za.

Minimum Academic Requirements

For Senior Certificate holders:

  • English HG (D) or SG (C)
  • Biology HG (D) or SG (C)
  • Mathematics HG (D) or SG (C)
  • M score of 17

For National Senior Certificate holders:

  • English Level 4
  • Life Sciences Level 4
  • Mathematics Level 4 OR Maths Literacy Level 5
  • APS of 27 or higher (Life Orientation counts half the score)

For National Vocational Certificate holders:

  • 50% in Fundamental Subjects (English FAL, Maths/Maths Literacy, Life Orientation)
  • 60% in Vocational Subjects (SA Health Care System, Public Health, Human Body and Mind, Community Oriented Primary Care)

For Current Grade 12 learners:

  • Must meet the NSC requirements in their Grade 11 final results.

  • Patience, flexibility, and calmness in crises
  • Leadership and communication skills
  • Computer literacy and study skills
  • Compassion, honesty, and resilience

Recruitment and Selection Process

All shortlisted candidates will undergo:

  • Compulsory psychometric assessment
  • Medical surveillance (including a physical examination)
  • Verification of submitted documents

It’s important to note that completing all these steps does not guarantee final selection.

Programme Commitments

Successful applicants will be required to:

  • Sign an agreement with the Gauteng Department of Health.
  • Attend lectures at the assigned campus.
  • Participate in Work Integrated Learning (WIL), which includes working shifts, weekends, nights, and public holidays in Gauteng Department of Health hospitals and clinics.
