CSIR / SASSETA Internship Programme for 2025

 

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), one of South Africa’s leading scientific and technology research, development, and implementation institutions, has joined forces with the Safety and Security Sector Education and Training Authority (SASSETA) to launch a dynamic internship programme aimed at nurturing the next generation of professionals in the safety and security sectors.

This strategic partnership is a testament to both institutions’ commitment to addressing youth unemployment and closing the skills gap within South Africa’s public and private safety sectors. Through this internship initiative, graduates are provided with valuable workplace exposure, enabling them to translate academic knowledge into practical, on-the-job experience.

PURPOSE AND FOCUS OF THE PROGRAMME:

The CSIR-SASSETA Internship Programme is designed specifically for young South African graduates who have completed qualifications in fields such as Public Administration, Policing, Criminology, Forensic Sciences, Law, Safety Management, and Security Risk Management. The internships typically span 12 months and are structured to give interns real-world exposure to operations and projects that align with national safety priorities.

Interns are hosted within various departments of the CSIR and are supervised by highly skilled professionals who offer both technical mentorship and career development guidance. The objective is to empower participants with industry-ready skills and work ethics that increase their employability within the safety and security sectors.

 

 

WHO CAN APPLY?

These opportunities are based in Pretoria and are available in the following science, engineering, and technology (SET) fields:

• Electrical Engineering/Electronic Engineering
• Mechatronic Engineering

REQUIREMENTS:

• A South African citizen.
• Must have Completed a qualification (National Diploma, Degree, or equivalent) in any of the above fields
