The Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA) has announced an exciting opportunity for lecturers across South Africa. As part of its mandate to advance skills in construction, engineering, and the built environment, CETA is offering bursaries for 30 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) lecturers and 20 Community Education and Training (CET) lecturers.
These bursaries are designed to strengthen the qualifications and expertise of lecturers, ensuring that they meet both minimum and advanced requirements in critical disciplines aligned to the CETA Organising Framework for Occupations (OFO).
Purpose of the Bursary
The bursaries aim to support academic advancement through funding postgraduate and advanced studies starting in the 2026 academic year. By enabling lecturers to upskill, CETA seeks to ensure that South Africa’s construction and engineering educators are well-equipped to train the next generation of skilled professionals.
Eligible Fields of Study
Applicants can apply for bursary funding in the following areas:
- Advanced Diploma or Honours Degree in Education with a focus on Construction, Engineering, or Built Environment (NQF Level 7 and above).
- STEM-related qualifications or advanced studies in Construction or Built Environment at Honours, Master’s, or PhD level.
- Priority disciplines such as Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, and related qualifications.
Requirements for Application
To be considered for the bursary, applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Employment: Must be a lecturer at a TVET or CET college registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and the Council on Higher Education (CHE). Preference will be given to lecturers in STEM or Built Environment fields.
- Citizenship: Applicants must be South African citizens or naturalised permanent residents.
- Age: Candidates should still have enough time before retirement to complete the funded programme.
- Study Enrolment: Must already be enrolled or accepted for studies commencing in the 2026 academic year.
Required Documents
Applicants must submit the following with their bursary application:
- Proof of current employment at a registered TVET or CET College.
- A certified copy of a valid South African ID (not older than six months).
- Proof of registration or acceptance at an accredited higher education institution.
- Latest academic transcript or results.
- Proof of residence.
