Bakwena Bursary Programme for 2026

The Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire (Pty) Ltd–better known as Bakwena–is the company managing South Africa’s busy N1 and N4 highways stretching from Tshwane to Bela-Bela, Rustenburg, Zeerust, and the Botswana border. Through its Bakwena Cares initiative, the company invests in education by offering bursaries to deserving students living and studying along this corridor

Who Can Apply?

The bursary is available to South African citizens who meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in their 2nd year or beyond at a recognized SA university
  • Hold a minimum academic average of 60%
  • Preferably reside within 6 km of the N1/N4 corridor

Fields of Study and Funding Details

Unlike niche bursaries, Bakwena supports any undergraduate field—Engineering, Health Sciences, Business, Arts, Social Sciences—you name it. Recipients receive up to R35 000 per academic year, funded directly to their tertiary institution. The bursary covers one year and may be renewed annually, subject to academic progress and available funding.
