Anglo American, through its Kumba Iron Ore division, is calling on South African youth to seize the opportunity to build a career in engineering and mining. If you are between the ages of 18 and 35, unemployed, and passionate about developing practical technical skills, this is your chance to join one of the world’s leading mining companies.

Applications for this learnership close on 31 October 2025, and selected candidates will be placed at Kolomela and Sishen operations for structured training.

What the Programme Offers

The Engineering Learnership Programme runs for 36–39 months. Learners will benefit from hands-on workplace exposure, classroom training, and the chance to earn recognised qualifications. This programme is specifically designed to prepare candidates for skilled roles in the mining and engineering sector.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify, applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Be a South African Citizen with a valid South African ID.
  • Be aged 18–35 years.
  • Hold a Driver’s License.
  • Be currently unemployed.
  • Provide proof of residential address.
  • Pass a Fitness Assessment and RFA (Risk Fitness Assessment).

 

 

In addition, there are subject and grade requirements depending on the trade applied for:

Electrical / Millwright / Auto Electrician 40% Maths, 40% Science N2 Maths, N2 Science
Fitter / Diesel Mechanic 40% Maths, 40% Science N2 Maths, N2 Science
Boilermaker / Plater Welder 40% Maths, 40% Science, 40% Engineering Drawing N2 Maths, N2 Science, N2 Engineering Drawing
Rigger 40% Maths, 40% Science, 40% Structural Drawing N2 Maths, N2 Science, N2 Structural Drawing
