The Free State Department of Education has announced an exciting opportunity for unemployed youth in the province to join the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Financial Monitors Programme. With 25 posts available, this initiative is designed to empower young South Africans with practical workplace experience while also contributing to the efficient management of ECD centres across the province.
This programme forms part of government’s ongoing commitment to youth empowerment, skills development, and accountability in the education sector. By appointing Financial Monitors, the department aims to ensure that ECD centres are effectively managing their funds and complying with policies, while also giving youth the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in administration and finance.
Programme Overview
Successful applicants will be appointed on a 12-month contract and will receive a monthly stipend to support them during the programme. The Financial Monitors will be based at various ECD centres and district offices across the Free State.
The role is specifically designed to support the Department’s oversight of ECD centres’ finances, ensuring that government funding for early learning programmes is utilised properly and transparently. This initiative not only strengthens service delivery but also builds much-needed financial management capacity among young professionals.

REQUIREMENTS :
- An applicable 3 year Degree/Diploma in Financial Management / BAdmin/ Bcom Accounting/Cost & Management Accounting or equivalent qualification (NQF 6)
- Preference to candidates with relevant NQF level 7 qualification
DUTIES :
- Monitoring of ECD Finances
- Preparing Financial Statements
- Consolidation of ECD’s Financial Statements
- Performing account reconciliations and audits
- Compile financial spreadsheets, report statements
- Establish and maintain database
- Training of ECD centre’s matrons and governing bodies
