Young people in the West Rand have an exciting opportunity to gain practical, in-demand digital repair skills. U-Swipe Telecoms, in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Economic Development (GDED), is recruiting unemployed youth for the Cellphone Repair Skills Training Programme that includes structured training, mentorship, entrepreneurship support and market access.

This programme is ideal for young people who want to enter the fast-growing mobile repair industry or start their own small cellphone repair business.

About U-Swipe Telecoms and GDED

U-Swipe Telecoms is a South African telecommunications training and support organisation dedicated to empowering young people with practical digital and repair skills. They offer high-quality technical training, entrepreneurship development and market access pathways.

The Gauteng Department of Economic Development (GDED) partners with industry leaders to support youth development, township economy growth and small-business incubation. Their collaboration with U-Swipe Telecoms aims to create sustainable economic opportunities for young people in the West Rand.

This partnership ensures credibility, skills relevance, and strong employment/entrepreneurship outcomes—key E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness) signals for quality youth empowerment programmes.

Programme Requirements

To apply, you must:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be 18–35 years old
    • Target: 50% women, 7% persons with disabilities
  • Be unemployed and fully available for the duration of the training
  • Have Grade 12 with:
    • English, Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy, or Commercial Subjects
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in cellphone repair will be considered
  • Youth, women and persons with disabilities will receive first preference

  • Updated CV
  • Certified ID copy (within 3 months)
  • Certified Matric certificate (within 3 months)
  • Highest qualification (if applicable)
