SASSA Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Programme (TVET College Learners)

The Work Integrated Learning Programme is aimed at TVET College learners who need practical workplace exposure to complete their qualification requirements.

Important: What is WIL?

WIL is not just “work experience.” It’s structured workplace learning where you apply what you studied in a real environment, while completing a logbook and meeting training outcomes.

SASSA has clearly stated that successful candidates will be expected to complete at least 6 to 18 months of practical work exposure to fulfil the qualification requirement.

Internship Stipend

Successful candidates will receive an all-inclusive monthly stipend of R7 860,50.

That is a strong internship stipend compared to many programmes — and a great opportunity if you’ve been unemployed after completing your studies.

General Requirements (Important for Both Programmes)

Before you rush to apply, read this carefully because many applicants get disqualified for avoidable mistakes.

Citizenship and Eligibility

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must meet the qualification requirements as stated in the advert

Age Requirement (Internship)

For the internship programme, applicants must be between: 18 to 35 years

Employment Equity (EE) Targets

SASSA indicated that the programme will target:

  • African Males
  • African Females
  • White Males
  • White Females
  • Persons with Disabilities (from any race and gender)

This means applications from persons living with disabilities are strongly encouraged.

Screening & Verification (Do Not Ignore This)

SASSA also confirmed that appointments will be subject to compulsory pre-employment screening, including:

  • Qualification verification
  • ITC checks
  • Criminal record checks
  • Social media checks

If you have foreign qualifications, you must get SAQA evaluation, and you will be responsible for ensuring that.

Tip: Don’t wait until you’re shortlisted — start the SAQA process early if you studied outside South Africa.

How To Apply for SASSA WIL / Internship

SASSA states clearly that applications must be submitted by email.

Step 1: Complete the Z83 Form

You must submit a fully completed and signed Z83 application form.

Make sure your Z83 is neat and fully filled in — missing information can cause disqualification.

Step 2: Prepare Your CV

Your CV must be:

  • Updated
  • Professional
  • Relevant to the position you’re applying for

Step 3: Add Certified Copies of Documents

Attach certified copies of:

  • Identity Document / Smart ID
  • Qualifications
  • Academic record OR statement of results (especially for TVET applicants)

Step 4: Use the Correct Reference Number

This is extremely important.

When you email your application, you must quote:

  • The reference number
  • The name of the position
    (as stated in the advert)

Step 5: Email Your Application

Send your application to the email address: justiceapplications@sassa.gov.za

Closing Date: 14 February 2025

If you apply after the deadline, your application will likely not be considered — even if you are the perfect candidate.

Edupstairs Advice (Read This Before You Apply)

Opportunities like this are highly competitive. But the biggest reason applicants fail is not because they’re not qualified — it’s because they apply incorrectly.

Here’s our best advice:

1) Apply like a professional, not like you’re begging

Your email must be neat. Your documents must be clear. Your CV must be structured.

2) Your subject line matters

Use a strong subject line format like:

Subject: SASSA WIL Application – Finance (Ref: SASSA HO SAB 05/11/2025-04)

3) Don’t write a long email story

Just attach your documents and keep your message short and respectful.

4) Fix your CV before applying

If your CV has no structure, no dates, no clear skills — you are reducing your chances.

5) Apply early

Avoid last-minute applications, because you might face:

  • Load shedding
  • Email delays
  • Missing documents
  • Certification challenges
