What Is a Boilermaker?

A boilermaker is a skilled artisan who:

  • Fabricates metal structures
  • Works with steel plates, pipes, and pressure vessels
  • Performs welding, cutting, shaping, and assembly
  • Operates in factories, power plants, mines, and construction sites

This trade is physically demanding but highly respected—and often well-paid once qualified.

Opportunity Details 

  • 25 candidates will be selected
  • Training runs for 13 intensive weeks
  • You earn ±80 credits
  • On completion, you receive a college certificate
  • Tuition and PPE are fully covered
  • No transport, food allowance, or stipend is provided

This means you must be able to support yourself during training, but the long-term payoff can be huge.

To qualify, you must meet ALL or most of the following:

Minimum Requirements

  • NQF Level 4 (Matric) with Maths, Science & English
  • Preference for trade-related subjects
  • South African citizen
  • Aged 18–35 years (youth priority)
  • Resident of Umhlathuze Municipality
  • Proficient in English (training conducted in English)

Added Advantages

  • Prior trade-related work exposure
  • Strong motivation to pursue an artisan career

Assessments will form part of the selection process.
