About The Limpopo Department of Social Development (DSD)

The Limpopo Department of Social Development (DSD) plays a crucial role in providing welfare services, social support and community development across the province. Through funded NGOs, One-Stop Centres, clinics, welfare offices and youth care centres, the department ensures vulnerable communities receive essential services.

One of the DSD’s priorities is strengthening NGOs through financial compliance, accountability and proper reporting—which is why this internship programme exists. Graduates are trained and placed directly where NGO financial support is needed most.

Requirements

NQF Level 6 or equivalent qualification in:

  • Accounting
  • Financial Management
  • Internal Audit
  • Management Accounting

Skills Needed

  • Basic understanding of Public Service laws and policies

  • Good with numbers and analysis

Key Duties You Will Perform

During this internship, your responsibilities will include:

Financial & NGO Support

  • Helping onboard NGOs and explain funding conditions.
  • Providing basic financial literacy guidance.

Report Verification

  • Checking completeness of financial submissions.
  • Flagging incorrect or suspicious entries.
  • Preparing checklists for reviews.

Expenditure Monitoring

  • Comparing actual spending vs approved budgets.
  • Helping NGOs with variance reporting.

Training & Capacity Building

  • Assisting with financial training sessions.
  • Helping NGOs use financial tools like budgeting templates, cash books, etc.

Reporting & Audit Support

  • Assisting with monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Tracking audit findings and corrective actions.
  • Preparing supporting documents.
