Are you a passionate student looking to pursue a career in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering within the local government sector? The Institute of Municipal Engineering of Southern Africa (IMESA) is once again opening doors to bright young minds through its prestigious IMESA Bursary Programme for 2026. This programme is designed to support deserving students who aspire to make meaningful contributions to infrastructure development, service delivery, and sustainable communities through engineering excellence.
What is the IMESA Bursary Programme?
The IMESA Bursary Programme was established to address the critical shortage of engineering professionals in local municipalities by providing financial assistance to academically deserving students. The bursary specifically targets those who are studying or planning to study towards a National Diploma or Degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering at a recognized South African tertiary institution.
There are two categories of bursaries offered:
- Bursaries for Non-IMESA Members (Public Applicants): These are awarded to students who have no existing municipal employment, typically school-leavers or full-time university students.
- Bursaries for IMESA Members: These are intended for students who are employed by municipalities and wish to further their studies part-time.
