DSTI – NRF Scholarship Programme for 2026

Each year, the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) and the National Research Foundation (NRF) unite to offer the prestigious DSTI‑NRF Honours Scholarship Programme. Designed to empower exceptional South African students, this scholarship provides crucial funding for students pursuing full-time Honours degrees across a diverse range of fields— from Science, Engineering, and Technology to Social Sciences, Humanities, and Indigenous Knowledge Systems

Who Is Eligible?

  • South African citizens and permanent residents are eligible for both Full Cost of Study (FCS) and Partial Cost of Study (PCS) funding.
  • For first‑time Honours funding, applicants generally need at least a 65% average in their major subjects or across their final year, ensuring a high standard of academic excellence.
  • Current undergraduate students preparing for Honours, recent graduates, and those yet to receive final results may apply—final grades can be submitted later through their university’s NRF Designated Authority.

  • Partial Cost of Study (PCS):
    • Provides partial support for tuition and accommodation; typically accessible to permanent residents or high-achieving international candidates

Removing economic barriers lets students pursue research, internships, and publications without financial stress.
