A Skills Development Practitioner helps an organisation understand its workforce skills needs and turn those needs into practical employee development plans. Depending on the work setting, it may also involve training analysis, human-resources planning, workforce planning or skills-development strategy.

How to become a Skills Development Practitioner in South Africa

  1. Build a foundation in Business Studies, Economics, English and other subjects that strengthen planning, communication and analysis.
  2. Consider a relevant Further Education and Training Certificate: Community Development: Life Skills (NQF Level 4, 125 credits).
  3. Consider the National Certificate: Local Employment and Skills Development Practices (NQF Level 4, 164 credits).
  4. Seek opportunities to develop practical experience in employee development planning, training coordination, workplace reporting or human-resources support.
  5. Confirm the current qualification status, provider options, admission requirements and assessment arrangements with SAQA, a relevant quality council or an accredited provider.
