How to become a Real Estate Agent in South Africa

  1. Build knowledge of property sales, leasing, marketing, valuation and relevant legislative requirements.
  2. Consider a relevant pathway such as the Further Education and Training Certificate: Real Estate (NQF 4), Occupational Certificate: Real Estate Agent (NQF 4), National Certificate: Real Estate (NQF 5), National Certificate: Generic Management: Real Estate (NQF 5), or National Diploma: Real Estate: Property Marketing, Property Practice and Property Valuation (NQF 6).
  3. Gain practical exposure to property-related work, client communication, listings, negotiations, leasing processes and transaction administration.
  4. Develop experience coordinating representatives and managing responsibility. Relevant education can support entry into the field, while coordination and management roles commonly also involve workplace progression and increasing responsibility.
  5. Confirm the current qualification, provider, registration and assessment details with SAQA, a relevant quality council, an accredited provider or the appropriate official body before enrolling or entering practice.
