As the 2026 intake approaches, this opportunity once again opens doors for Grade 6 learners to secure placement at top partner high schools across the country – fully funded.

The Allan Gray Scholarship Programme goes far beyond merely covering school fees. It’s a long-term developmental journey that includes holistic support, mentorship, and exposure to entrepreneurial thinking – all beginning from high school. The Foundation seeks to nurture the next generation of responsible, high-impact leaders who will one day contribute meaningfully to South Africa’s socio-economic transformation.

WHO CAN APPLY?

The 2026 Allan Gray Scholarship Programme is aimed at current Grade 6 learners who will be entering Grade 8 in 2026.

  • Applicant must be a current Grade 6 learner in the year of application
  • Applicant must be a South African citizen
  • Applicant must not be older than 12 and not younger than 11 in Grade 6 (Applicants must be born in 2013 or 2014)
  • Applicant must demonstrate financial need
  • Applicant must obtain a minimum of 70% for both English and Mathematics

The programme particularly encourages applications from learners with entrepreneurial mindsets—those who see problems as opportunities and are keen to develop innovative solutions for their communities.

HOW TO APPLY:

Applications for the 2026 Allan Gray Scholarship are expected to open in early 2025. Prospective applicants can prepare by:

  • Submit a copy of your application form and supporting documentation
  • Successful applicants will be required to write the Foundation assessment in English and Mathematics for Grade 6 in December 2025
  • After the Foundation assessment, successful candidates will be invited for interviews in early 2026
  • Recommended candidates will be invited to the placement schools for interviews
  • Candidates whose recommendations are approved by the placement schools will be awarded the Allan Gray Scholarship in May 2026
  • Once the Allan Gray Scholarship is awarded, the Foundation, placement school, and the Scholar’s custodian sign a Memorandum of Agreement.
