Every year, Sekhukhune District Municipality opens its doors to aspiring finance professionals through its carefully structured Finance Internship Programme. This two-year Municipal Finance Management Internship Programme (MFMIP) offers young graduates a golden opportunity to launch meaningful careers in public sector finance—right where their passion for numbers meets community impact.

Purpose & Vision

Sekhukhune’s internship initiative is designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and hands-on, real-world financial skills. Guided by the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA Act 56 of 2003) and aligned with Municipal Minimum Competency Regulations, the programme offers a stepwise learning experience that aligns with national reform goals.

Eligibility & Remuneration

Ideal candidates typically hold a National Diploma or BCom (Accounting, Finance, Economics) and are aged between 21–35. No prior work experience is required—positioned as an incubator for fresh talent Interns earn R100 000 per annum, on a fixed‑term contract of about 24 months, fully supporting their journey into professional finance.

 

 

Roles & Responsibilities

Diversely structured, interns rotate through the Budget and Treasury Department, where they:

  • Support budget preparation, financial statements, and monthly management reporting
  • Capture and reconcile financial data to ensure accuracy
  • Assist senior staff with financial analysis and audits
  • Participate in the development of municipal financial policies and procedures

This varied exposure immerses interns in the full lifecycle of public finance, enhancing decision-making, reporting, and compliance competencies.
