Requirements

Four-year degree in Environmental Health, Registration with the Health Professional Council of Southern African as an independent practitioner.
Minimum of one (1) year community service of appropriate experience after registration.
Ability to plan and organize own work to promote service delivery, experience in Environmental Health management, leadership qualities, decision maker Knowledge and understanding of the scope of profession for Environmental Health Practitioners.
Knowledge of departmental policies and strategic plans Public Service protocols and Public Finance Management Act.
Must have a valid driver’s Licence.
COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: Excellent communication (written, verbal, presentation and liaison) skills.
Skills in preparations for National and Provincial campaigns.
Ability to work in a team, after hours, holidays including weekend and under pressure in changing environment.
Ability to solve problems with proven analytic skills.
A high level of diligence and commitment in ensuring that all duties are performed within tight and stipulated timeframes with outputs that are of the required quality. Knowledge of the following important Acts: The Public Service Act, the Public Service Regulation, the Public Finance Management Act as well as National Health Act. Understanding legislative frameworks and related policies in the health public sector and other prescripts.

Duties

Assist and support hospital management to comply with Environmental Health (EH) related legislative prescripts, strategies, and guidelines of the department.
Implement Water Quality monitoring.
Waste Management and general hygiene monitoring including WASH.
Surveillance and prevention of communicable diseases excluding immunizations.
Vector control monitoring, environmental pollution control, management of human remains and chemical safety.
Ensure that the facility comply with general hygiene requirements. Implement the National Health Environment Management Plan Liaise with provincial EH Programme. Implement the national EH Norms and Standards and Support implementation of Ideal Hospital Framework to ensure quality health services.
Participate and provide support in the infection and prevention control/Occupational Health and Safety teams and any committee which promotes environmental health. Promote and advocate for climate change mitigation strategies and Implement Heat Health Plan.
Consolidate weekly, monthly and annual plans and report.
Malaria investigations internally in the institution.
Consolidate weekly, monthly and annual plans and report.
Attend to environmental health related complaints.
Supporting outbreak investigations (e.g. food borne and water borne diseases.
Conduct food control measures within the institution. Identifying environmental hazards (noise, ventilation, lighting, chemicals).
Conducting risk assessments in high-risk areas (labs, mortuaries, theatres).
Preparing reports for hospital management and health authorities.
Supporting hospital readiness during outbreaks, disasters, or environmental incidents.
Liase with provincial EHS, ensure the implementation of the department's strategies.
Assist with other activities delegated by the supervisor / manager.
Provide support to District Environmental Health Managers and Chief Environmental Health Practitioner on other related activities.
Execute other tasks/duties delegated by the Manager / Supervisor.
