City of Polokwane Learnership Programme for 2025

In a commendable step towards youth empowerment and economic inclusion, the City of Polokwane has partnered with Mahube Training and Development to launch an impactful Learnership Training Programme. This initiative represents a critical investment in human capital, aimed at uplifting the unemployed youth and equipping them with the necessary skills to thrive in South Africa’s competitive job market.

PROGRAMMES:

  • Learnership: Electrical Engineering NQF Level 2 – X15
  • Learnership: Water and Wastewater Treatment NQF Level 2 – X15
  • Learnership: Water and Wastewater Reticulation NQF Level 2 – X30
  • Learnership: Landscape NQF Level 3 – X30

BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT

The Polokwane-Mahube partnership underscores a shared commitment to combat youth unemployment and close the skills gap, especially in previously disadvantaged communities. Learnerships are structured learning programmes that combine theoretical knowledge with practical workplace experience. This allows learners to not only gain a nationally recognized qualification but also become more employable in the formal economy.

Through this programme, hundreds of youth from Polokwane and surrounding areas will have the opportunity to participate in accredited SETA-aligned learnerships in various sectors, including business administration, construction, ICT, hospitality, and community development.

WHO QUALIFIES FOR THE PROGRAMME?

  • Applicants should be South African citizens, aged 18-45
  • Applicants should be residents within the jurisdiction of Polokwane Municipality
  • Applicants should be unemployed and should not have participated on Learnership /ARPL PROGRAMME before
  • Successful candidates will be subjected to security vetting

Special emphasis is placed on youth from disadvantaged backgrounds, women, and persons living with disabilities, aligning with South Africa’s broader transformation and skills development goals.

STIPENDS AND SUPPORT

One of the major highlights of this initiative is that all successful participants will receive a monthly stipend, funded through the relevant Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA). This not only eases the financial burden on learners but also incentivizes full participation and commitment throughout the training period.

In addition to financial support, learners will be provided with career guidance, mentorship, and access to workplace exposure opportunities, preparing them for long-term professional success.

DRIVING LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

The City of Polokwane’s collaboration with Mahube Training & Development is not just about skills training—it is about catalyzing local economic development. By investing in human capital at a grassroots level, the municipality is helping to create a pipeline of skilled professionals who can contribute meaningfully to the local economy.

Mahube Training & Development, with its proven track record in skills delivery, brings quality facilitation, mentorship, and project management to ensure that every learner gets the most out of the programme.
