Instrument Mechanicians install, remove, calibrate, maintain and repair industrial instruments and process-control systems. They work with measurement and control variables such as pressure, flow, temperature and level, combining electronics, instrumentation, calibration and systematic fault diagnosis.

How to become a Instrument Mechanician in South Africa
1. Meet the entry requirement. SAQA ID 94701 requires NQF Level 4 with Mathematics and Science.
2. Complete instrumentation training. The qualification includes occupational safety, electronics, calibration, instrument installation, process-control loops, fault diagnosis and workplace experience.
3. Complete the external assessment. Learners must complete the prescribed modules and workplace experience before the external integrated summative assessment.
4. Meet physical-access requirements. SAQA notes medical testing for relevant phobias and colour blindness for access to the qualification.
