How to become a Fitter and Turner in South Africa
1. Meet the entry requirement. SAQA ID 94020 requires NQF Level 1 with Mathematics and Science.
2. Complete fitting and machining training. The occupational programme covers engineering fundamentals, fitting theory, machining theory, practical fabrication and workplace maintenance experience.
3. Complete the trade assessment. SAQA states that the external summative assessment is a trade test conducted at a QCTO-accredited assessment centre.
4. Build precision and maintenance experience. Qualified artisans can work across manufacturing, maintenance, repair and machining environments.

Qualification: Occupational Certificate: Fitter and Turner, SAQA ID 94020, NQF Level 4, 548 credits.
Entry requirement: NQF Level 1 with Mathematics and Science.
Assessment: External trade test at an accredited assessment centre.
Status: Registration ended on 30 December 2025; last enrolment is 30 December 2026 and last achievement is 30 December 2029.
