The Centre for Entrepreneurship (CFE) within the Johannesburg Business School at the University of Johannesburg runs the UJ- Rapid Incubator programmes, based at the University of Johannesburg Soweto Campus and supported by the Small Enterprise Development and Finance Agency (SEDFA), which empower young entrepreneurs in the ICT and digital technology space. The incubator provides tailored support in skills development, mentorship, resources, and market access to help turn innovative ideas into sustainable businesses.
Hackathon Requirements
- Be between the ages of 18 — 35 years old;
- Be tech-savvy with an interest in digital solutions;
- Live in Soweto and/or surrounding areas; and
- Hold a tertiary qualification NQF level 5 and above.

What to Expect on the Day
Participants will spend the day tackling real-world township and SME challenges. You will work in groups to brainstorm innovative tech-driven solutions, then individually present your ideas for evaluation.
Shortlisted participants will move through different rounds of problem-solving, and Finalists will get the chance to pitch their best solutions to a judging panel. The focus is on creativity, teamwork, and demonstrating how technology can solve real problems—no prototype required.
