A sector-based skills body
SETA means Sector Education and Training Authority. Each authority focuses on a defined part of the economy, such as banking, construction, health, ICT, agriculture, transport or local government.

Why SETAs exist
Different sectors need different occupations and technical capabilities. SETAs help identify those needs and support programmes that build relevant workplace skills.

Who works with SETAs
Employers, accredited skills-development providers, colleges, universities, professional bodies and government institutions may participate in SETA-supported initiatives.

What a SETA is not
A SETA is not automatically an employer or a permanent job-placement agency. A programme associated with a SETA may still be recruited and hosted by another organisation.
