Understanding the Role: What Does an Ecotourism Worker Do?

This position is hands-on, dynamic, and perfect for someone who enjoys the outdoors. As an Ecotourism Worker, you will help maintain facilities, support visitors, ensure environmental safety, and assist with operational activities.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  1. Maintaining Tourist Facilities

You will ensure that huts, open areas, camping spots, and rest areas are clean and ready for visitors — especially before hikers arrive.

  1. Supporting Hiking Trail Operations

Ecotourism Workers assist with:

  • Search and rescue activities when hikers go missing or require help
  • Collecting hikers on open-ended trails
  • Monitoring risks that could affect visitor safety
  1. Upholding Environmental and Safety Standards

You will help perform risk assessments, maintain forest areas, and follow SAFCOL’s BOP (Best Operating Practices) standards.

  1. Delivering Excellent Visitor Service

  1. Assisting with Tools & Maintenance

With experience in brushcutting, chainsaws, welding, drilling, and general maintenance, you will support operational tasks around the site.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Essential Requirements

  • Grade 10 (minimum)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in one or more of the following:
    • Handyman duties
    • Maintenance work
    • Brushcutting
    • Welding
    • Drilling
    • Chainsaw operation
