Hi Everyone

I am a manager at work and have staff reporting to me. It is time for annual reviews and this one employee has been slacking and I know they have potential to do better but they seem to be having personal issues.

How do I approach this conversation with empathy but also being professional and giving constructive criticism?

Thank you

Hi

Difficult conversations are part of almost every workplace. The goal isn't to "win" the conversation—it's to solve the problem while maintaining a professional relationship whenever possible. Try not to let the issue continue for a long period without you addressing it.

Try to stay calm if emotions arise and try not to accuse the staff member.

It is difficult to deal with fellow staff member always remain calm and listen as much as you speak.

Good luck
