This structured training opportunity is designed to equip apprentices with the technical skills, practical experience, and professional mindset required to thrive as qualified artisans.

Purpose of the Programme

The primary goal of this apprenticeship is to prepare learners to work independently and productively as boilermakers. Apprentices will be trained to plan, manufacture, assemble, inspect, and repair components while applying technical knowledge in diverse contexts. This journey offers hands-on exposure to real engineering operations, preparing you to emerge as a competent and qualified artisan who can contribute meaningfully to South Africa’s growing infrastructure and engineering sectors.

Key Responsibilities

During the programme, apprentices will gain practical knowledge and skills across a wide range of boilermaking duties. This includes:

  • Planning and preparing the work site, equipment, tools, consumables, and materials.
  • Using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment.
  • Installing, assembling, and fitting components for structural and mechanical applications.
  • Testing, inspecting, commissioning, maintaining, and repairing equipment, systems, and assemblies.
  • Learning to modify and adapt components to meet operational requirements.

Through this holistic training approach, candidates will graduate with the competence to meet industry standards and adapt to various trade-related environments.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must meet the following academic entry requirements. Any one of these routes can qualify you for entry:

Option 1: N2 Certificate

  • Mathematics (pure)
  • Engineering Science
  • Plating & Structural Drawing
  • Engineering Drawing (draughting)
  • Metal Worker’s Theory
  • Plater’s Theory

Option 2: N3 – N6 Subjects

  • Mathematics (pure)
  • Engineering Science
  • Plating & Structural Drawing
  • Engineering Drawing (draughting)
  • Mechanotechnology

Option 3: NCV Level 4

  • English (First Additional Language)
  • Mathematics (pure)
  • Life Orientation
  • Engineering Process
  • Professional Engineering Practice
  • Applied Engineering Technology
  • Welding

Option 4: Technical Grade 12

  • Mechanical Technology (welding and metalwork)
  • Mathematics
  • Engineering and Graphic Design
  • Physical Science
  • Home Language and First Additional Language
  • Life Orientation

Additionally, applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old.
